Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! We are so excited to welcome our students and families back to Barney Ford Elementary. We look forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth, connection, and joy!
Please take note of the following important dates and arrival information:
🌟 Soft Start
Thursday, August 20: Kindergarten–2nd Grade, 7:45 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Friday, August 21: 3rd–5th Grade, 7:45 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
On both days, classroom teachers and staff will meet students on the front lawn and help them get settled into their classrooms.
📚 First Full Day for All K–5 Students
Monday, August 24: 7:45 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
Teachers will meet students on the front lawn.
Breakfast will be served in the classroom.
🥣 Beginning Tuesday, August 25
Breakfast will be served in the café before school, from 7:30–7:45 a.m.
Beginning Tuesday, all students will enter through the main school entrance.
Staff will be inside the building to welcome students and help them find their classrooms.
⏰ Daily Pick-Up / After-School Care
Students must be picked up by 3:00 p.m. each day unless they are enrolled in Discovery Link, the district’s after-school program.

Drive With Care
Barney Ford Families,
We need your help to keep our students and DPS community safe. As our lives become more and more demanding, it can be easy to get distracted or lose focus when dropping off and picking up students from school. From construction zones and changing traffic patterns to sudden stops with traffic, we must remain alert, especially in school zones. This past week, several incidents have taken place throughout DPS in the morning hours, jeopardizing the safety and well-being of our students. To ensure all of our students, staff and community remain as safe as possible near our schools, please ensure you are driving with the utmost care and attention, especially in school zones. Our children are counting on us to look out for them.
As a reminder:
Slow down - follow the designated speed limits in school zones.
Stay alert - watch for students in crosswalks, at drop-offs and pick-ups, and pay attention to students who may unexpectedly cross the street.
Avoid distractions - put phones down and focus on your surroundings.
Be patient - a few extra minutes can make the difference in keeping everyone safe.
Thank you for ensuring our students and all of us remain safe throughout the day. Please continue to drive safely and responsibly.

With the upcoming holiday breaks, we encourage you to plan family activities around our school calendar to ensure your child is present in school all day, every day. Each day of instruction is vital in helping our students meet their educational goals and maintain their learning progress. Make-up work does not fully help students recover missed instruction, and one student’s absence affects classmates’ progress due to the collaborative nature of learning.
Please do your best to plan appointments and travel during the following breaks:
